AISI 316L Stainless Steel Plate JIS SUS316L DIN 1.4404 Austenitic

AISI 316L Stainless Steel Plate is a low-carbon variant of the 316 grade stainless steel, which belongs to the austenitic family. It is widely recognized for its enhanced resistance to corrosion, particularly against chlorides and other harsh environments, due to its higher molybdenum content compared to the standard 304 stainless steel.

Composition:

The typical chemical composition of 316L Stainless Steel includes:

- Chromium (Cr): Around 16%-18%, providing basic corrosion resistance.

- Nickel (Ni): Approximately 10%-14%, contributing to its formability and toughness.

- Molybdenum (Mo): A significant addition at around 2%-3% that enhances corrosion resistance, especially in chloride-containing environments such as seawater or saline solutions.

- Carbon (C): Lower carbon content (max 0.03%) distinguishes it from 316不锈钢, reducing the risk of intergranular corrosion after welding.

- Other elements like Silicon (Si), Manganese (Mn), Phosphorus (P), and Sulfur (S) are present in trace amounts.

Characteristics:

1. Corrosion Resistance: Superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, making it ideal for marine applications and acidic environments.

2. Austenitic Structure: Provides excellent formability, weldability, and ductility, allowing it to be fabricated into various shapes and sizes without losing strength.

3. Low-Carbon Content: Reduces the susceptibility to sensitization (precipitation of chromium carbides at grain boundaries), thereby improving corrosion resistance in welded structures.

4. Heat Resistance: Withstands high temperatures up to approximately 870°C (1600°F) while maintaining mechanical properties.

5. Non-Magnetic Properties: Austenitic grades like 316L are non-magnetic in their annealed condition but may become slightly magnetic when cold worked.

Use:

1. Chemical Processing Industry: Components exposed to corrosive chemicals, such as tanks, vessels, and piping systems.

2. Marine Applications: Ideal for shipbuilding components, offshore oil rigs, and coastal architecture due to its resistance to saltwater corrosion.

3. Food and Pharmaceutical Industries: Equipment where hygiene and corrosion resistance are critical, including processing machinery, storage containers, and surgical instruments.

4. Waste Treatment Plants: Components that come into contact with aggressive chemicals or wastewater.

5. Aerospace and Automotive: High-performance parts that require both corrosion resistance and durability under extreme conditions.

6. Architectural Uses: For external cladding, handrails, and structural supports in coastal or chemically polluted areas.

In summary, 316L Stainless Steel Plate offers an advanced level of corrosion protection and durability, making it a preferred material choice for industries and applications that demand high levels of corrosion resistance coupled with superior fabrication properties. Its widespread use reflects its versatility and resilience across various challenging environments.
