AISI 2507 Stainless Steel Coil is a super duplex stainless steel grade that possesses superior corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength compared to conventional austenitic or duplex stainless steels. It belongs to the 25Cr-7Ni-Mo-N super duplex family and is designed to withstand harsh environments with aggressive chemicals, extreme temperatures, and high pressures.

Composition:

The typical chemical composition of 2507 Stainless Steel includes:

- Chromium (Cr): Approximately 25% to 26%, providing excellent resistance to oxidation and pitting corrosion.

- Nickel (Ni): Around 7% to 8%, which contributes to its austenitic phase and improves overall corrosion resistance.

- Molybdenum (Mo): About 3.5% to 4.5%, enhancing resistance against chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking and pitting.

- Nitrogen (N): Typically ranging from 0.24% to 0.32%, significantly increasing the yield strength and hardness.

- Ferrite content: Balanced between 40% to 50%, ensuring high strength while maintaining good ductility and toughness.

Characteristics:

1. Corrosion Resistance: Offers exceptional resistance to various types of corrosion including pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, particularly in chloride-rich environments and acidic media.

2. Mechanical Strength: With twice the yield strength of standard austenitic grades like 304 or 316, it allows for thinner sections without compromising structural integrity.

3. Weldability: Although more complex than welding austenitic stainless steels, 2507 can be successfully welded using suitable procedures and post-weld heat treatments to maintain its properties.

4. Formability: While not as formable as pure austenitic stainless steels, it has reasonable forming characteristics due to its duplex structure.

5. Fatigue Resistance: Exhibits outstanding fatigue strength, especially under cyclic loading conditions.

Use:

1. Oil and Gas Industry: For offshore platforms, pipelines, valves, pumps, and other equipment exposed to highly corrosive fluids and seawater.

2. Chemical Processing: Components such as storage tanks, process vessels, heat exchangers, and piping systems handling highly acidic or chlorinated compounds.

3. Desalination Plants: Used extensively in reverse osmosis membrane housings and components subjected to high chloride concentrations.

4. Marine Applications: Shipbuilding, coastal structures, and marine equipment due to its robustness against saltwater corrosion.

5. Pulp and Paper Industry: In areas where strong acids and alkalis are used, as well as in high-pressure applications.

6. Mining and Mineral Processing: For equipment and parts that need to withstand abrasive wear and highly corrosive slurries.

In summary, AISI 2507 Stainless Steel Coil is a high-performance material designed for challenging applications where both extreme corrosion resistance and high strength are critical requirements. Its versatility across numerous industries highlights its status as a premier choice for engineers and designers facing demanding environmental and operational conditions.
